Irony: Click on each type of IRONY to view the video we watched in class.

  • Verbal irony: Saying the opposite of what you mean. Could be sarcasm. Sarcasm = verbal irony + attitude.
  • Situational irony: When reality is opposite of your expectations. Your expectation is that a dog will chase a cat, but situational irony would be when the reality is a cat chasing a dog, becoming the opposite of your expectation.
  • Dramatic irony: When you know more about what is happening to the character than the character. You know the secret that they do not.
